Volunteering

PETAL are always looking for more volunteers, and we currently require more volunteers to assist with the support for all the Children & Young People. If you feel this may be of interest to you please contact us through the Contact Us link at the top right of this page.

We know of no other course available that integrates Cognitive Behavioural and Person Centred Therapies at a practical level of delivery.

Our volunteers fulfil a wide range of roles within the organisation:

  • Provide both practical and emotional support,
  • One to one counselling,
  • Support members to form self-support groups,
  • Organise and participating in fundraising activities,
  • Assist with day to day operational activities and awareness raising.

Volunteers commit an average of 8 to 10 hours per week to these various functions. A number of these tasks take place outwith normal office hours, such as fundraising and raising awareness.

Recruiting Volunteers

We recruit members as volunteers and provide them with a range of training courses; both volunteers and paid sessional workers attend an induction programme.

Petal’s Accelerated Learning by Sharing is focused on the full legal process involved with murder, culpable homicide and suicide: It forms part of our induction programme for new volunteers and paid workers. The training is continuously updated in response to changes tin legislation and criminal justice process.

Other training includes: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills, Protective Behaviours Course, Seasons for Growth Programme, Solution Focused Therapy, Dealing with Depression and Traumatic Grief and First Aid Training

We provide Training for Staff & existing Volunteers and proposed New Volunteers.
The Training is based around the Psychotherapeutic Interventions (A programme Integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Client- Centred Counselling devised and formulated by: Findlay Collins RMN, A, MPhil- University of Paisley and Dave Deady RGN, RMN, DN, DTMN, BA(Hons) Dip.Couns. University of Paisley) and our own in- house course P. A. L. S. ( petal’s Accelerated Learning by Sharing). Findlay and Dave deliver the programme as a Workshop specific to the petal Membership and the training has been devised to deal with the issues specific to the work carried out by petal and places emphasis on the full Legal Process, especially in the case of Murder and also highlights any changes that take place within the Criminal Justice Process.
