The support for Children and Young People is an integral part of the services offered by petal.
We provide support to a number of Children & Young People affected by either murder or suicide. They are either supported individually or in groups.
Seasons for Growth
The group support is provided by the ‘Seasons for Growth’ programme. Seasons for Growth provides a safe and creative way for children and young people to explore feelings, memories, loss and grief using small peer groups supported by a trained companion.
The ‘Seasons for Growth’ programme has been developed to help youngsters to get in touch with their feelings during a difficult time in their lives and also to enable them to meet and share with other young people who are in similar situations.
What is Seasons for Growth?
The programme has been based on the four tasks developed by the famous psychologist and writer William Worden (1982). They are as follows:
- To accept the reality of the loss.
- To experience the pain of grief.
- To adjust to an environment in which the significant person is no longer present.
- To reinvest emotional energy.
We require more volunteers to assist with the support for all the Children & Young People.
Children and Young People are getting more and more drawn into a suicide culture and hopefully we will be here to spot the signs and prevent such terrible tragedies
